TBD 1100 Acres US Hwy 50
In 1853 John W. Gunnison penned the first known description of Colorado’s Black Canyon. The exasperated J.W. Gunnison, surveying routes for the railway, described the landscape as “the roughest, most hilly and most cut up” country he had ever seen. The terrain surrounding today’s Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park lives up to J.W.’s original assessment- Blue Creek North is no exception. Beginning at 7,800’, the 1,100 +/- acre ranch extends up to 9,200’ above sea level. With increasing elevation, sage brush, gambel oak, and piñon trees give way to pockets of dark timber in the Stumpy Creek drainages. The rim of Fitzpatrick Mesa, which bisects the property from SE to NW, creates a crown of stone outcroppings that overlook the Cimarron Forks and the San Juan Mountains. Topping Fitzpatrick, quaking aspen and timber overtake low-lying vegetation on the property’s northern slope. The northern boundary, shared with the Curecanti National Recreation Area, provides exceptional access to otherwise inaccessible public land. The same rough, hilly, and cut-up topography that baffled 19th century engineers produces multiple vegetation classes, harbors big game, and creates the breath-taking paradise southwestern Colorado is known for.
